It will be louder. You say too loud now. Removing the catalytic converter will only make it louder. So you won’t get the desired effect.
Your engine uses 2 oxygen sensors. One before and one after the catalytic converter. These do two things. The first oxygen sensor gives the engine management computer a final analysis on how the engine is actually performing. It uses this information to adjust the fuel / air mixture and ignition timing. The reduced back-pressure will cause the engine to run lean. Your computer may not be able to compensate.
The other thing this pair of oxygen sensors does is to evaluate the performance of the catalytic converter. Since there is no catalytic converter this will be detected as a fault. You will always have a check engine light. The computer may shift into a limp home mode. When this happens the computer assumes the data from both oxygen sensors is bogus. The computer will use some preset static values for these sensors. When this happens there will be a noticeable reduction in power and fuel economy.
The first thing I suggest is getting a new mechanic. If your exhaust is louder the problem is most likely a bad muffler. Not the catalytic converter.
