How Long Can A Vehicle Be Driven While Waiting For A New Catalytic Converter

Question: How Long Can A Vehicle Be Driven While Waiting For A New Catalytic Converter,
Our mechanic told us that if the check engine light came back on in our Mitsubishi Lancer we would need a new catalytic converter. The light just came on, but we can’t get the car back to the shop for a week. Is if okay to drive the car for a week before replacing the cat? Is it dangerous or will it hurt the car?

Best answer for How Long Can A Vehicle Be Driven While Waiting For A New Catalytic Converter

Hey… Dont worry too much, if your Lancer still has power. If your catalytic converter is clogged it wouid be similar to “lugging” a car up a hill in too high of a gear. Thats harmful… and can burn out your valves, or engine. There is a concern … you wont be able to pass smog with that check engine light on, so hopefully that new cat will take care of all the saved codes . Hope this helps.
